Ibis Budget Hotel, Elizabeth Street, Melbourne CBD - 80 room curtain alteration project

When Ibis Budget Hotel on Elizabeth Street underwent a significant renovation, new air conditioning units were installed beneath the windows throughout the property. The existing curtains, running across 80 guest rooms, no longer cleared the new units and needed to be shortened across the entire hotel.

The constraint: the hotel needed to remain open and maintain guest occupancy throughout the project.

Our approach was to work floor by floor, coordinating with hotel management to schedule each stage around room availability. Curtains were removed, altered and rehung systematically, allowing the hotel to continue operating without interruption to guests.

Leonda on the Yarra, Grand hall curtain alterations, completed on-site after hours

Leonda on the Yarra is one of Melbourne’s premier event venues. Their grand hall features two large window bays, each approximately 10 metres wide, with floor-length curtains that had begun pooling heavily on the floor. The excess fabric was collecting dust, creating a maintenance burden and detracting from the venue’s presentation.

Removing curtains of this size for off-site alteration was not practical. The venue operates a full calendar of lunches, dinners and private events and could not afford extended downtime.

We brought the work to them. Using specialised mobile equipment, including an industrial overlocker and hemming machine, our team completed the alterations on-site after hours across two evenings. Equipment was stored at the venue between sessions. The curtains remained hanging throughout, and the venue continued its full schedule without disruption.

The result: curtains that sit cleanly just above the floor, professionally finished, with no trace of the work carried out.

Witches in Britches, Melbourne

For one of Melbourne’s most recognisable theatre restaurants, we designed and made the red velvet curtain and decorative swag, a theatrical statement piece that required traditional curtain-making skills and an understanding of performance environments.
